Louie Quirino is a working cinematographer with credits in commercials, TV, theatrical features, and music videos. A graduate of UP Film as well as the Los Angeles Film School, he is also known as a feature film colorist with credits in both the indie as well as the commercial industry. His credits as Director of Photography include episodes of Shake, Rattle and Roll, Rounin, Tulad ng Dati, and Altar. As a colorist his work can be seen in Independencia, Big Time, Shake Rattle and Roll, and Altar.
Course description
This course is designed as a practical guide for beginning cinematographers in the independent film field. It will begin with a recap of the cinematographers aesthetic and production duties. Examples from films will be screened and discussed to clarify the cinematographer’s role in today’s world of digital imaging.
Emphasis will be made on visualization and the proper use of the cinematographer’s tools to achieve the photographic look required by each project he may encounter. Shooting exercises in aid of visualization are planned.
The course will also deal with real world problem solving for the cinematographer in the different phases of film production (pre-production, production, and post-production). Shooting assignments will be given and the class will be asked to constructively critique each others work.

Beginning to Explore and Apply Your Own Filmmaking Process
Course Description
The workshop is an optional two part course divided into 18 hours++ each that shall use multidisciplinary, holistic, philosophical, practical and creative exercises to help the participant discover, explore and implement their own unique artistic filmmaking process. The course shall focus mainly on the possibilities of film as an art form and how the participant can responsiblyexpress and sustain their own unique vision of the world and life by studying and applying eight values of film that the facilitator has observed and experienced through the greatest examples of the medium: Subtlety, Subtext, Simplicity (Complexity), Intimacy, Immediacy, Intensity, Flexibility and Specific/Particular.
Whatever voice, whatever genre, whatever form, whatever style comes out from the participants’ film processes, the workshop aims to help them express something that is natural and truthful for them.
Workshop Facilitator
Jan Philippe “JP” V. Carpio is a self taught writer, filmmaker and performer living in Metro Manila, Philippines. He has written and directed three full length films shot on video. The first in 2000, Girl of My Dreams, the second Balay Dakû in 2002, and the third Hilo (thread) in 2007. He is a National Commission for Culture and the Arts Cinema Grant Recipient for the first full length film in the Ilonggo language Balay Dakû. Apart from a number of pending short films and full lengths, his fourth full length film Palanggâ (the beloved) is currently in post production. His films have been screened at local film festivals like the eKsperim[E]nto Film & Video Festival, Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival and .MOV International Digital Film Festival as well as international film festivals like the Chicago Filipino American Film Festival. His writing has been published in national publications like Philippine Graphic and The Philippine Star. His short story “Bundle” was the runner up for Best Published First Short Story at the 2001 NVM Gonzalez Awards. He collaborates on occasion with actor and dancer Vanni Liwanag on improvised movement pieces which they have performed in venues such as the I Love You Store, Lav Diaz’s award winning film Melancholia and the painting exhibit opening of Dante Perez’s Versus at Alliance Francaise Manila. He performs regularly with Soliman Cruz’s Actors’ Pleygrawnd. He is currently a freelance videographer and editor, a contributing writer on film and art to spacephilippines.com, a member of Actor’s Pleygrawnd and a member of Free Expression Philippines.
